Hernia or pulled muscle...ok to run?
I'm almost exclusively running in prep for Boston Marathon. The last couple weeksafter my longer runs my lower abdomen has been a little tight/sore. Last week I sneezed and felt a sharp pain just to the side of my left pelvic bone. Self diagnosis points to either a pulled muscle or possibly a hernia. No buldging, etc and doesn't hurt all the time but is most noticeable when I sneeze or cough. I've run a few times since and no pain or discomfort. Setting up appt with my GP Dr but may not be for another week or two. I have an 18 miler on the schedule tomorrow...thinking I'm ok to go forward as long as it doesn't bother me too much. Any thoughts or advice are appreciated.
Thanks

I had the same issue building for kiawah marathon. Mine happened to be pain in lower ab/pubic area. Doc said no hernia, just strain of some sort. Nothing really helped but it wasn't a problem during race. I eventually had ART on this and it hurt worse than any other ART treatment I've gotten, but now it's fixed. Doc said the tissue was "dense".
Good luck with it.

sneezed one night and thought someone stabbed me in the groin. carried on with no probs. was a hernia in my case. I never stopped to go to the doc, just kept 'reducing' it myself every time it popped out. Fast Forward five years, was still doing tri's with it and by then it was a huge hernia. Was having to push it back up and in about every 5' on the bike or run.
finally got sick of that and got it fixed. big repair with mesh, surgeon understood that I had no intentions of backing off so he better make it last. so far, so good.
if it is a hernia, don't wait 5 years to get it fixed. the sooner you get it repaired, the easier it will be to recover. you don't want the goods to get all twisted around, that's real bad.
good luck.
only upside was the trisuits made me look like I was a porn star...
