Need Help with Timing of Big Volume Days
I'm new to EN and still trying to nail down the ideal timing of my big volume days. I'm doing IM Louisville so I'm wanting to block off some days on my schedule this summer to do these key, longer workouts. Also, I joined EN/started my OS a little later than ideal. I am going to try and stay in the OS as long as possible but as a result will have a fairly small window between ending my OS and jumping into my IM plan. I've read some posts and wiki articles as well as listened to some podcasts but still not 100% clear on ideal timing so I thought I would throw it out to the Nation.
Ideally how many weeks out from my IM should I do:
- Big Bike Volume Week/Weekend?
- Big Tri Day?
- 1st Race Rehearsal?
- 2nd Race Rehearsal?
Any other important big days I am leaving out? Thanks for the help!

Hi Dan, I'm a noob myself and found the following page while looking around the site. It should give you a general guidance on your race/training schedule. Any other questions I think you can ask in the Macro forum.

Hope this helps!

Volume Strategy Series
Part I: Why Go Long
Part II: The Big Bike Week
Part III: The Big Tri Week
Your "Big Day", and both Race Rehearsals will be in the Training Plan and for most plans big day is a 1hour swim/4 hour bike/1 hour run...RR are typcially executed with a 6 hour bike/1 hour run at race pace. Some folks tweak this based on race expectations, terrain, ability, and time available. if you load up a IM plan 12 weeks out it should give you a Big Day. If you do the full 20 week plan believe the big day shows up twice.
As far as when to do a big volume week, I suspect someone with more experience will chime in. as Sarah said you could always lay out a season planning spreadhseet and post in the Macro. Season Planning Tool kit is also in the wiki. There are some real experts in here on how and when to do volume camps. Fine line between volume and beating your head against the wall seeking better results. Even without a camp or big volume week, there is plenty of work and volume in the stand alone EN IM Plans..
good luck!!!
Dan,
There is some great guidance in the wiki regarding those days/weeks. The timing comes up in the IM plan itself.
Bgi Tri Week- Week 11 of 20.
Big Tri Day - Also week 11.
RR1 - 6 weekends out.
RR2 - 3 weekends out.
If you want to take a look at the training plan for advanced scheduling purposes just load them as your training plan and surf around to the various weeks, then reload your current outseeaseon. Just be mindful of the ending dates not get off track with your current training, while juggling the plans.
