Should You Upgrade To The Garmin 910XT?

 Hi All:

Lotsa chatter in Facebook and elsewhere about this new Garmin watch.  Basically an upgrade from the 310XT with a swim lap counter.

Anyone play with this yet?  Howz the swim lap couter accuracy?  Is it thinner, lighter, better?

Let us know.

  • Lots of discussion over in this thread in the gear forum.  People seem to be liking it.  I know I'm having some gear envy!

  • Have done two 3K swims and have gotten 2850 and 2950 yds out of 910XT and 3000 and 3025 out of SS. Won't be selling the SS just yet. Hopefully Garmin can solve this issue but for now the SS gets my vote.

The distance notification doesn't work well either. Set it for 500 yds and it consistently vibrates at about 540 yards! ??? Love the 910 for using w/ wireless SRM and running but Swimsense seems better suited for pool swimming at least until a firmware upgrade fixes the issue w/ Garmin. The beta version of Swimsense is particularly useful offering basically same screens as on Garmin now.

  •  Mike:

Thanks.  I even did a forum search for Garmin 910XT and I got nothing.

Folks, go to that thread instead.

  •  FYI -  I did read that SwimSense if designed strictly for laps/pools- doesn't work in open water....that may be a strenght of the 910 v SS.
