Bike rental in Tuscany

I'm going to be in Tuscany for about 10 days in July for a family vacation, about an hour southeast of Siena.  Does anyone know if there are any places to rent bikes by the day in that region?  I'm not interested in a multi-day tour with a group.  It just sounds like great fun to ride in that region.    Thanks!

  • Hey Kristen,

This is Karin, Hayes' girlfriend. If you make it into Florence, there's a great shop called Florence By Bike just north of the old center, a few blocks northeast of the train station off of Via Nazionale--very walkable from wherever you may park while there. http://www.florencebybike.it/index.php?lang=en Talk to my buddy Filippo, who speaks beautiful English and will hook you up with maps. They rent good Italian bikes (Bianchi, Wilier) with good Italian components (Campy) so you feel like you're getting the authentic experience. =)

Incidentally, look for Mario Cipollini if you're near Lucca -- I saw him out riding there.

I'm sure there are a billion other places to rent from, too, but it takes a little work for them to turn up in Google searches.

    HAVE FUN! I'm jealous.

  • Thanks, Karin, that's great info! I'm really excited... =)
  • I got nothing to add, just living vicariously through you. It sounds amazing!
  •  Was in that area this summer.  Without bkes unfortunately.     Tour company Iron Donkey may rent their basic bikes.
