ABP ride on a trainer

How do you guys structure your ABP rides when you do them inside?  Outside, I just go and don't think about it.  But inside, a near 2 hour single interval makes me crazy.  I've been doing it as repeats of 20' (3') but not sure if I'm cheating.

  • Was listening to one of the HIM Podcasts where Coach P talks about ABP rides outside and breaking them up in 30' chunks. I think the purpose of ABP is to accumulate TSS in short time, so i would not count it as cheating.
  • What ever it takes for you to get as much time there as possible. If you need to split them up, no problem.
  • Whatever you have to do to get the work in!

    Good job.
  • 20' is about what I do for indoor. 30' for ourdoor. I use 2' recoveries. But really I don't think it matters if the recovery is 2, 3, or 4.

  • Matthew,

I'm like others typically 20-30' with 2-4' break, doing what I have to to get as much ABP riding as possible.

  • 15' (2') Inside - and I usually don't do more than 2 hours total.

20-25' (1') Outside - I do laps on a course that has varying terrain and no stop lights.  It is about 20-25' and my goal is to start ~.80 IF and then beat my time each time I do a lap.  Makes time go by really fast.

  • I'll do all sorts of stuff to mix it up. start with a 20' interval, then 4 x 5' (30"), then 2 x 10' (90"), then 8 x 2.5' (30"), just as an example.

Basically, even 30-60s of rest helps a lot mentally, but that little rest really doesn't make the intervals easier, so I play with it. On the trainer, changing things up helps a ton.

There's two Spinervals DVD's I use that often do the thinking for me, but sometimes I'll just watch bike races and ride as if I'm outside.
