Handlebars, bottle and computer

For this season, I have changed my set-up, so that I now nolonger use the normal aerobottle between the handlebars, but rather a normal bottle lying between the bars...

But where to place the computer (Ergomo)...?

I used to place it in front of the aerobottle, but obviously that is nolonger an option.. If I move it behind the bottle, it will be too far back for me to be able to read the display...

I'm trying to raise it so that it will be slightly above the bottle, but still not in the wind...

Anyone have examples or ideas for good fits

  •  When I had my ergomo, because the cabling was only on one side, I had to mount it to my aero bars WAY up near the shifter.

It was a total pain because the computer itself wasn't symmetrical and had to be treated so different than other computers in that aspect.

  •  I raced that way last year. Started the year with my power meter on the stem, but really took my eyes away from the road. I ended up getting an extender (for like 10 bucks) and put it right behind where my hands would be on the aerobars, then moved my water bottle cage back a little.

I'll see if I can find a picture of the set up from last year. Have been evaluating whether I should change things up this year.

  •  Yes computer right near shifters.

  • Speedfil sells a stem mount kit that will set the bottle further away from the aero shifters leaving plenty of room to keep you computer out infront near the shifters.

  • Hi Bo,

I think Matt Ancona is one of EN's resident experts on this topic. Check out his setup. I got some great ideas from him and other contributors from this thread:

  • I use the Xlab computer mount. I have not used it in a race as yet, but it seems to work fine on my training rides. It sits in the 'shadow' of the bottle quite close to you so it might take some adjustment for your eyes.
  •  I'm trying out the XLab torpedo mount/cage with Speefil A2 and XLab computer mount.

The tube and filler on the A2 will come out of the "rear" of the bottle which will be between my elbows.  I've turned the XLab mount so it's "rear" forward so that the computer mount and Garmin are in the shadow of my hands.  So far this doesn't seem like it will be a problem in this orientation.  My first ride with this setup was on a nice 6mile rolling climb.

  • Here is my setup. I use a king cage mount on the stem because the straw works awesome with the angle versus flat. I mounted the computer to a peice of gray PVC pipe from the sprinkler section of the hardware store. I cut it a little big then used a file to round it out the fit the bars. The fit is pretty snug with cushy bar tape and the zip ties are there for insurance. Total cost was about $1.50 plus 30 minutes of time. It works great when aero, the thing is right in my hands with my fingers on the buttons if I want.

  • @Dino, thanks for posting this pic. That's exactly where I want to mount my computer and have been trying to figure out how to do it. Now I know!
  • My pleasure! For the record, I stole the idea from someone else on here.... image
