Confusion

Hey Guys,

I am clearly new to this Endurance Nation website, but I am going to be sticking with you guys til I do the Syracuse 70.3 and see how well this type of training does for me. Here is why I am confused and it is all the abbreviations that is going on in the training plans.. I only used a heart rate monitor and never used a power meter, but I will be experimenting on one with my triathlon buddy. Also, in the 5 day trial i get a out of season beginner plan and when I start paying for the training will I actually get a semi personal plan, because my goal for  Syracuse is 4:12-4:15 and I think that is a little bit more experienced then a beginner .. Thanks a lot and sorry! Cheers

  • Sounds like a Coach R and P feedback answer ?
  • @Todd - Most all of the abbreviations can be decoded by clicking the link underneath your "Upcoming Workouts" titled 'Quick Start Guide: Training Zones, Terms, and Abbreviations". Also, right above that link is one to the FAQ (both links are below)

You can be very successful training with a Heart Rate monitor. There is no need to buy and use a powermeter. However, before you go drop big bucks on a new set of wheels, we recommend you invest in a powermeter instead --- you will get much more bang for the buck.

The plans are semi-personal in the sense that Coach Rich and Coach Patrick (RnP) give us the tools to become better self-coached athletes. The plans are broken down by Beg/Int/Adv, and then you are given the knowledge -- via the wiki, the message boards, and the weekly coach chats -- to modify (or focusify) to meet your needs. Each training plan has a podcast/video for each week. These are HUGE in helping you become a knowledgeable self-coached athlete.

    Welcome to EN!
  • Hey Todd, welcome to da Haus! I really think the trial membership is to show you the tip of the iceberg as far as information and the logistics of how the plans work, etc. I don't even remember what you do and don't have access to as a trial member, but if you post which abbreviations are confusing, we can try to interpret for you. Also not sure what options there are for pland for trial members, but once you're fully on board there are a whole host of options for training plans. Sounds like with your experience you'll be on the Advanced plan. Wow, 4:12-4:15 is very fast on that hilly course. Also, if you do have acces to a power meter, I think you will be surprised how much it will change your training and racing for the better.
  • Hey thanks everyone this has helped alot.. I can see this is also a good community! Love it and thanks again

    Hey Todd,

You've come on board _just_ as we have significantly reworked our trial process -- the plan you see, what you do/do not have access to, etc. I'm working on your season plan right now, it should be in your inbox, give me a call this weekend if everything isn't clear -- 626-203-3278. I'm on the West Coast and will be without cell service until about 4-5pm Saturday then available the rest of the weekend.
