Anyone bought an Ultrasound machine?

I have runners knee (I hope, and not worse).  I was thinking of getting an ultrasound machine.  Seems the go from $75-$200 or so.  I figure it may help me heal a little faster since its taking 2 weeks so far to get better.  Anyone have any luck with them?  Are they worth it?

  • Yes. I bought one from a Canadian firm (Home Medic or some such). I had to describe the intended use to get their doctor's OK for me to buy it. I don't think a U.S. firm will sell you one. It doesn't look like it's that powerful, but my wife showed it to her PT once and they were impressed with it. You can definitely feel it tugging on muscle adhesions. I use a Lavender cream that comes with it, but they are not allowed to put medication in the cream ... that would be practicing medicine. I've had it for several years and will immediately buy another when this one croaks.
  • Better to get a proper diagnosis than self diagnose and buy an expensive machine, but be wrong.
  • Michele- Yep I'm going to the doc in the morning since its still a little sore after taking a week off. Plus, I figure if I get referred to the PT, then I can see how they do the ultrasound!
