Hip pain after changing to compact crank

I recently changed from the standard crank (FSA - that came with Cervelo P2) to Shimano Ultegra compact crank.  Since then, I get pain on my left hip after about an hour ride.  I had left hip issues last winter during run (not bike), so I know my left side is more prone to issues.  The crank length is exactly the same for both, but I was told that Shimano is more stiff than FSA by a local tri bike fitter.  Has anyone had any issues by switching?  Thanks for your help!

  • I switched out road and tri bikes a couple of years ago without problems. If crank lengths are the same, it would seem very odd to have issues, but I'd love to hear a good reason why from someone!

  • Did your cadence change? Maybe you up your cadence and its tiring out the hip faster.

Just throwing darts out as it is kinda strange

  • A couple other darts?

I'm assuming the same pedals, shoes and cleats or did you get new stuff with the cranks as well?

Any change in position, that is moving the seat forward and closing or changing the hip angle?

  • I just checked WKO for cadence, and they were not changed much from the previous rides... I had to get new cleats to replace broken ones at the same time. I thought I had them position about the same as before, but I have decided to have a LBS take a look. I hope they will find something to fix. Not a good thing to have this problem so close to the race. Thanks everyone for the suggestions.
