Torn Meniscus

Bummer, I just got my MRI results and its a torn meniscus.

From the report:

There is a so-called root tear at the meniscal capsular

attachment of the medial meniscus posterior horn.  There is also

linear signal in the posterior horn horizontally oriented which

communicates with this root tear compatible with a horizontal

split.

IMPRESSION:

1.  Root tear at the meniscal capsular junction of the medial

meniscus, posterior horn.

2.  Tibial collateral ligament bursitis.

So, looks as if surgery is in my future.  My knee is constantly aching.  So i don't think there is any hope for non surgical recovery.  Hopefully I will get in to see the Ortho soon to see what they think.

I assume the recovery is 4-6 weeks and then build back up on the bike/swim and then throw running in later.

  • So, the ortho said he didn't think the MRI actaully showed a meniscus tear (unilke the radiologist). He thinks its runners knee. Its gotten a lot better over the last few days and I have 2 more PT appts this week and a few more next week. Hopefully it will be runners knee and i can recover quickly. I've already been off for several weeks.
