This type of behaviour isn't just confined to ST, I feel. I think if you build a forum around a subject with any sort of competition or bragging rights involved and have a bunch of folks converge in the same place under the guise of anonymity, there's just going to be a lot of dickheadedness involved. I know the LetsRun and Bodybuilding.com forums have similar issues, and also with a bit of teenage angst mixed in with hot-headed adults. Plenty of silliness. (And no, I'm not a bodybuilder; I just poke around there occasionally to see if I can find any source of cheap laughs. It's not a bad site though ).

Try the old copy/paste if you're interested. Entertaining scientific discussion of the merits of mixing aluminum rims on a carbon bike.
To be honest, I only frequent ST to read stuff like this and the silly, meaningless debates that keep popping up.
Mostly I'm disappointed they didn't use triangulation or attempt to determine the angle of repose...

That one is funny and sad. Poor guy was just trying to get some answers and his question got turned into a joke.
Very funny, I was getting a little cross eyed reading that.
