Treatment for neuroma

My mom is suffering from a neuroma on her right foor and her doctor is suggesting treatment with a series of injections of "dehydrated alcohol and marcaine."

Apparently, she is unlikely to respond to just a single injection so the doc is recommending she hold off until after this week's Half Mary.  She ran a 10-miler two weeks ago and starting have signficant pain around mile 8.

Has anyone had experience with this treatment for a neuroma?  Any other suggested courses of action for her?  Will she be worse off pushing through the pain this weekend, or just uncomfortable?

thanks for the advice.

  • Hi Brett,

I'm not a doc, but have been having some nerve issues in my left foot. I've found a metatarsal pad has made a huge difference. I think there are videos on YouTube that show placement. I don't think she'll hurt anything. But, I know when mine kicks in it feels like someone is pouring boiling oil over my toes.
