Heat pace calculator for HIM?

How can the Heat Pace Calculator be used for HIM distance?

  • As one involved in its development, I do not recommend hacking the heat pace app for an HIM. It was developed using data from all IM run times in US IMs over the past 10+ years, correlated to the temp and humidity. Not only is an HIM run at a faster pace, but we don't know if the performance degradation %-age is the same for specific temps in an HIM compared to the IM run. I _suspect_ if one used the resulting % increase (not the actual recommended pace), you'd be running too slow, but who knows?

My own experience is if you just listen to your body, it will tell you how slow to run. The trick is believing and acting on that feedback, when it seems too slow (in the first few miles) compared to your training paces.

  •  Thanks Al. Good advice. It will be interesting to use that feel/RPE measurement this weekend in 90 degrees after training in sub-70 degrees all spring.
