  • Carl, Teri, and Eugene are all done with the bike and on the run. Nice to see our folks moving forward.
  • Wow 1st male pro finishes in 9:07 - tough day put there for everyone.
  • Update via Facebook from Stephanie "Eight ALS transports, three flight-for-life transports, one death. I'll trade my disappointment for a chance to fight another day". Very scary day indeed.
  • Nemo, Heather and Marianne were pulled from the water and had to go to the Med Tent to get warmed up ... they decided to go on and continue "unofficially" and Jo Spencer also from Little Rock was averaging just under 16 at the 66 mile split which was equal to the 45-49 female leaders (her bike split only shows on my iPhone ... but not my PC)

But it appears the TRACKER system is bonkers now ... no new splits seem to be appearing

In addition to the Hoffman being blown off the road ... also heard a couple of water craft sank ... Sounds a "wee bit gnarly"
  • That's very sad about all the med issues and fatality.....
  • Looks like Carl is off the bike and running. Go team!
  • Definitely a tough day and terrible to hear about the fatality.

@ Nemo - the 'godmother' I chuckled at that.  Interesting that they let her and Heather continue on.

  • I think there does need to be an explanation from WTC about why the swim was allowed to go ahead in these circumstances.
  • Oh David, thank you for that news. You don't know how worried several of us have been.
  • Ian, from what I understand (and based on my own observation watching the live feed), the winds didn't really kick up until after the start.

Is there any official news or reports on this? If true, it is a black day for Ironman.

  • I can't tell you all how much it means to have such an incredibly awesome team.

The info about the death came from the security official (the husband of another athlete who got pulled from the water with me and we commiserated together all day). It looks like IronmanLive is now reporting no major incidences. I sure hope that is the case.

Anyway, I think I am the only ENer to DNF today. Everyone looks good out there on the run.
  • Spotted Michael Johnson at 845 east coast time...On the hot corner web cam
  • Hope everyone is safe.Glad you are ok!

  • Stephanie- Michele didn't make the bike cut-off (by 3 minutes or something like that). So you are not alone. And even if you were- that doesn't make any difference- you did the right thing today. Your health and safety are WAAAAAAAAAY more important than a race we do as a hobby. No one here is going to think any less of you for not finishing that swim. I'm proud of every single EN member who did the training necessary to get to the start of the race today- no matter where, when, or if they finish.
  • Carl is running, but something must be up with timing. He's showing ~27:00/mile for the first split and 10ish for the second. Go team!
  • Spotted Eugene....looked relaxed and steady
  • Spotted Patrick Hayden... He was movin fast...
  • Swim was brutal. Bike was a head wind or crosswind from start all the way to base of veyo wall 45 miles or so. Tailwind up the wall, then headwind to turn at pie shop. Then tailwind to town.
  • Congrats to all racers who started the race yesterday....

Was the fatality confirmed I'm not seeing any news on this. Hope it was a case of first report being wrong...
  • Seriously, big congrats to everyone who toed the start line, no matter how your day went. Just incredible...
  • I just want to say that the wind did not pick up for us till we had made the first turn....~800 yards....then we were swimming directly into the wind and the white caps were smacking us in the face and the water was beathing us down. Had to learn a new stroke....Big, long and deep strokes....then would come up and bob looking for other pink or green caps because we could not see the damn buoys for they were all over the place. I knew I had to go around the rock and then head towards shore so that is all I did. Along with everyone else.

Bike had a head wind and cross wind for all but the small bit back into town. It was brutal. I was so damn happy to be off the bike. I had a Zipp 404 on the front and a wheelcover on the rear. Yep was being shown what mother nature could do. Hey I broke a record though-top speed of over 52 mph.....yeeee haaaaawwwww it was fast.

The run was three loops and that is just a freaking mind killer....You pass the finish line chute like 6 times but lots of spectators.

    LOVED IT!!!!!
