Smokin myself with this road bike vs Tri bike

I have not had a road bike in a few years now. I thought to get one , which I picked up on Ebay, went out for a ride today with my gang.

Last week on the same roads with my Tri bike was 2h 40min TSS 257 an IF of .983

This week on my new , to me any way, road bike the ride was 2h 30min TSS 263 an IF 1.024

Yes I know I need a retest of FTP but I'm 3 weeks into a 6 week VO2 max bump and will do that in another 3 weeks.

So do you find that you have more power on a road bike ?

  • Yes you will have more power on a road bike as a general rule. Enjoy it.
  • yes, I love my road bike b/c my watts are higher even though it takes me longer (b/c my tri bike is so aero). image
  • Tucker and Patrick speak truth. Your watts will generally drop the more aggressive you go into your aero position. This however, is well compensated by the fact that you go faster, and for less effort!
  • I just find the road bike way more comfortable, which makes it way easier for me to absolutely slay myself! love it!
  • One of my local training partners and a former EN athlete did a little informal experiment this year at Wildflower. He raced it last year on his tri bike and this year on his road bike, as a member of a relay team. He's been doing a lot of roadie stuff this year so didn't want to bother with setting up the tri bike. Anyway, he rode about the same bike split, at about the same weight, but put out ~40w more on the road bike vs tri bike.

  • last year I did my outseason on my road bike and then switched to my tri bike. I had more power with my road bike.
