Racing IM with an aero-bottle and BSN?
My initial plan for IM MT nutrition is to do what I do in the HIM, twice. Meaning, ~500 cals of EFS in an aero-bottle and water in a Torhans. At the BSN, I want to refill my aero-bottle with another EFS dose.
My question is about the BSN station. Is it reasonable to stop, unclip, and fill my aero-bottle from a cheap bottle in my bag? I just don't want to lose an expensive aero bottle but still want to get its benefits. What do you guys think? The time to make the switch is probably less than 1 minute so I'm not that concerned about the time. It's more about if it's ok to actually stop like that.

Regarding bottle setup for Ironman: if your plan is to rack the water bottles handed out at the aid stations, you may want to rethink that. Last year WTC was handing out the supercheap Costco bottles of water, with thin, thin plastic. Take one sip or squeeze it and it would deform and was almost impossible to get it stay on a bottle cage, downtube, aerobar mounted or otherwise.
I really had to figure stuff out on the fly at IMWI. If I were to race an IM again, I would go back to having aerobottle on the aerobars that I can dump water in and put the nutrition -- either concentrated Infinit or Powerbar from the course -- on the downtube.
At IMCDA'08 I used concentrated Infinit in an Arundel bottle mounted to the downtube. I had my second bottle in the BSN bag and just tossed the first one. ~$12 for the spare bottle, just cost of business by the time the race starts
