Spin Bike?

Hi folks. I am in the process of changing my daily routines to fit my en plan in.

In the past I have done some of my bike interval work on a spin bike. Given my work/family situation it is much easier than outside in the dark or super early/late on the trainer.

Am I setting myself up to fail by using the spin bike?

  • Spin bike or your bike on a stationary trainer?

If the former, you're much better off doing the latter.

  • I was afraid of that. Easiest from a time management standpoint is to do my short bikes at lunch which means on a spin bike at the gym next door to my office.
I will look into bringing my bike to work and getting out on the road at lunch. I have a place to shower. The trick will be finding a place to ride with no stop lights traffic etc for the intervals. Oh well. I will figure it out I am sure. Everyone else here has.
  • what about bringing the trainer to the office. You can do the intervals in your office, especially if you do not use the trainer at home. If you use the trainer at home, you could always buy another trainer to bring to the office.
  • I second Brenda's comment... if you can get a trainer in the office you'll be set! I'm the first to admit that I'm a spin junkie (if I didn't admit it, my husband would call me out anyway, so there it is!) and I can tell you it's next to impossible to get the proper set-up on a spin bike. You're also missing out on valuable time sitting in YOUR saddle - those spin saddles are so over-cushioned that it's a shock to the sit bones to get onto a real saddle!
  • I LOVE a good spin class - but mostly for fun and burning calories.  But for "getting faster" on a real bike??  Not so much...  have even tried riding on my own ON a spin bike doing the same intervals as I would on a real bike.  It's just not even close to being the same for me.

  • Brenda - That is an idea. I could bring bike and trainer to work. I couldn't ride at my office because we see clients but I could set it up out back or somewhere near by. That would also give the added been of being outside in the heat and I wouldn't have to deal with traffic and stoplights when I am trying to hit intervals.
I can live without spin class.
Getting me out of crossfit will be another matter...
    thx!
  • Great to hear that the idea sat well with you. As for crossfit, do what you can, but because of the intensity of the workouts within the EN workouts, you may find that you will be able to do less and less of the intensity in a crossfit workout because one will affect the other. That is when you will have to make a decision on what is more important. I am a personal trainer and love, love, love strength training, but I am now into my HIM plan and my strength training, while still in my program, has been modified so that I am not sore for the key workouts in my plan. Good luck on everything Jimmy.
