Inserting Big Bike Week into plan

I would like to add in a couple of big bike weeks into my training but want to make sure that I receive the most benefit from doing so. My current schedule: My A race is IM Canada Aug 26th I have a tri camp 4 day weekend in Penticton July 22-25 By B race is 70.3 Lake Stevens July 15th My B race is Escape from Alcatraz June 10th which weeks would be the most beneficial to add in the big bike weeks? Thanks for your help, Lee Ann

  • I am also doing IM Canada, my big bike week is the same weekend as Lake Stevens. I am doing the STP one day down and two days back (200,100,100). A BBW is most beneficial 6-8 weeks prior to an IM, so between taper and recovery for Lake Stevens and then the time in Penticton and travel I am not sure where you will squeeze it in. Might be better, considering your schedule, to make a couple big bike weekends instead of a full week. Don't forget you have two RR's to get in there as well.
  • Lee Ann,

What Steve said. Also, a BBW is NOT a mandatory thing. It's a nice to have thing, if you can make it happen and I would say that you're 4 day tri camp is about the same thing?

Bottomline, the best time to do this is within about 5-8wks of your race, given:

    • It's logistically easy for you
    • Doesn't conflict with other races. IE, you booger a $$$ half Ironman because you're shagged from the BBW the week before.
    • Doesn't conflict with the final race rehearsal. The timing of the first one can be slid forward or back. But the timing of the final RR is very important.
