New Computrainer Software

I talked to the Computrainer rep at the IM TX expo today.  They had the software on display.  He told me it was now for sale on their website.  I can't seem to see it there.  $190 - Ouch!  Anyone want to buy it and give some feed back image TrainerRoad looks much better IMHO.

  • Well it still better be free like it was supposed to be when I bought my CT almost 2 years ago now LOL. Cause if it isnt .... It could be 10 times better than the last version and still not be worth the $190 . Thats how bad the last version is. Gonna have to try TR next winter I think!
  • As a CT owner, a software engineer, and an all around tech enthusiast-- Racermate straight up screwed the pooch on this one.

Looking at the recent developments, its clear that the demand for new CT long since hit critical mass and essentially left Racermate behind. We have ErgVideo 3 basically creating their own UI, TrainerRoad offering their own solution. We have ctANT+ bridging the gap between CT and ANT+ and I've seen several threads on ST about other homebrew 3D software for CompuTrainer.

Racermate simply failed. They show up at damn near every race expo and raffle off a CT, they send out plenty of marketing emails about how great CT athletes are doing, but they utterly failed to keep pace with technology in any sort of timely manner and people simply got sick of it and took matters into their own hand.

After all of that, to try and charge me $190 to update my damn near $2000 trainer from the early 1990s to mid-2000's looking software is practically insulting. CT should be thanking their lucky stars people have started to take matters into their own hands and breath new life into the CT or it really is only a matter of time before they become a relic of the past like the dinosaur they have become.
  • I'm running the beta now and it's a day late and a dollar short by a long shot. I'm having a tough time even using it to give feedback because the integration that I have now with the CT and trainer road (TR) beats the pants off the new software. Yes you do stuff in one place and the charts look better, but the length of time it took them to deliver this is ridiculous. I'm hooked on the TR integration and their workouts rock and see no reason to switch. I don't use the spin scan stuff as running the whole wire mess each time I move a bike around is a major pain, same with the cadence. The HR piece is also a joke so I don't use that either. So I'm left with simply a power file and then capture the HR and cadence on the garmin 500. That now leaves me with two files, yet again a major pain.
With TR and the USB dongle I have all the data from the computrainer on my TT bike and my cadence and hr all integrate into one nice file I can dump up to garmin or WKO. My bike that I keep at work on the trainer has my powermeter and I ride with my laptop at lunch using TR and get killer rides in. TR with CT or Powermeter is clean, elegant, time saving and fun to use and the new software from CT is none of those things IMHO.
I got the CT software for free because I made the cutoff by 2 weeks, but I would never pay for the software if I had to buy it.
