CRASH & BURN

Headed out for my long ride this AM looking to get about 4hrs with 2X 18' @ 95% and 2X 25' (5') @ 85%. 95% intervals were fine.  First 85% interval was no problem.  10' into #2 and it started getting unreasonable hard.  By 20' in I was struggling to push 85% with everything I had.  The last hour+ I limped back home barely about to sustain 50-60% FTP.  I can't recall crashing so hard on the bike ever - or at least not with that far left to go.  If I could have just stopped riding all together I would have - just laid down and taken a nap.

  • Calorie issue? Sounds bonky!
  • +1 on what Jeff said. Sounds like calorie shortfall or, perhaps, I am jus saying, could be the beginning of a cold or flu bug....

How did you feel in the after some food and a shower?
  • Might be a little short on calories but I didn't do anything different that usual. Had to get on some yard work when I got home as much as I didn't want to - had my recovery bottle though. Now it's time for a shower, some food, and the Norfolk Beer Festival. I'm not worried about a single workout p shit happens. I'm probably still working through recovery from Kinetic Half last Saturday. I took Sun-Tue off, some short intervals on the bike Wed, swim Thurs, easy run with strides yesterday. I know that it typically takes me 10-14 days to come back from a 1/2 but it usually impacts my running most. Thought I could manage a regular ride today.
  • Body might be telling you to enjoy some more recovery time...

  • We'll see tomorrow when I try to ride again. It's supposed to rain so I'll be on my trainet im the pain cave. That's hood becaise I can pull the plug whenever I want and walk rigjt bavk into the house and continue watching the Tour of Cali om my couch image
  • Good plan! Keep us posted!

  • x2 on more rest needed. I would just spin the sunday ride pretty easy, no fireworks necessary!!!
  • I put in an hour @ 80-90% on my trainer this afternoon. Definitely felt fatigue in my quads but wasn't struggling. With the BRP camp coming up next weekend I've got a pretty easy first few days of the week planned - swim Mon, long run Tue, swim Wed.
