Cervelo warranty - snapped derailleur hanger
I broke off my rear derailleur hanger on my ride this morning. The bike is back at the shop where I bought it, but their first reaction was that a failure like this is typically consider the effect of a crash. I haven't crashed the bike, but obviously have no way to prove that.
Does anyone have experience with Cervelo and how willing they will be to replace the frame (derailluer hanger isn't replaceble on the P2C)?
If they consider this an effect of an accident, do you know what their replacement prices are?
I'm only 5 weeks out from IMCDA. Anything I can do to get them to resolve this faster than usual?

Ugg, that sucks.
Don't know what Cervelo's frame repair, replacement policy is but since time is of the essence, you may want to contact Calfee to see what they can do. Calfee is a California bike manufacturer, one of the first to product carbon frames, and they have a nice little side biz of repairing the frames of other manufacturers.
I'm not sure what their turnaround time is but I gotta think that by the time you went back and forth with Cervelo, shipping, etc, you'd be better of just sending it to Calfee and getting it done.
That said, very, very, very unusual for the RD hanger to just snap. I've only seen it happen with crashes, baggage monkeys, etc. Seems to me that if there is no other obvious damage to you, the frame, etc, then you have a case to say "look, LBS manager...I didn't friggin' crash."
I'll be talking to LBS manger tomorrow to make sure he states the case effectively to Cervelo. I'll give Calfee a shout as well. Might be a great way to save the bike.
Pittsburgh tends to only have one shop for each of the brands, and I started talking with guys I know from the shops this weekend, so if Cervelo won't honor the warranty, I should have some pretty good pricing options on either a bike or a frameset. From various forums, it appears that the crash replacement program from Cervelo gives about 35% off, but I'm concerned about turn around time, and not very stoked to spend money on a Cervelo product if they won't stand behind this bike.
Trying to keep a positive mental outlook on this. Since if I have issues with Cervelo, it will definitely be an unexpected pain in the wallet, but a broken frame is a lot better than a broken body part with 5 weeks to go.
What bike, what size frame is it? I have an '06 P3C, 54cm that I guarantee won't be ridden in the next 5-6wks. But you gotta promise to not tell anyone, especially any EN members, that I haven't cleaned it since I took it out of the box after IMWI...
Second on the Calfee option.
If you end up with a new bike, maybe think of one with replaceable hanger. I always carry an extra hanger.
Next bike will definitely have a replaceable hanger.
Brett,
Good that it's working out relatively cheap. Remeber to take all your measurements for fit before sending the bike. Then it will be very easy to set up the new one.
