Military Training

Hopefully this isn't already covered somewhere, but I used the search tool to no avail.

I am in the US miltary, we 'workout' every morning for at least an hour. I put that in quotes because while it is a workout, most of it it self paced as far as running, the rest is done as a group. I am new here and am wondering if I should be factoring in my run/sprint days to runs, and Push/Sit up days into strength training.

  • Welcome Ken. There are a number of us military types here -- present and former.

Short answer - yes, you can factor that into your training. Two questions - What training plan are you on? Do you have a set PT schedule? You can definitely use the PT runs for your workout. We normally don't have strength training in our plans, but since you have to do it, there are better days and times for some of your workouts.

The team can give you advice when you use this forum. Also, you can post to the Micro Thread (What do I do this week?) where Coach Patrick will answer your specific questions.

For example, I go TDY a minimum of one week per month -- I worked with my OS group, and then CoachP for my modified weekly plan for those weeks.

    Again -- welcome!
  • I wish we had a set PT schedule, but we do usually stick to mon/wed/fri runs, with wed sprints and fri long runs ~3-4 miles. I have to factor in at least mentally, after a good strength day that at least my swim times, if not bike times will be a bit slower.

I think coming up I will be on Short Course (starting monday is admin week) for a tristar worms event that I am not going to (leave got approved at the last minute) and might be attending a sprint/oly/ 'middle (2/70/15)' here in Germany a couple weeks later.

    Thanks for the info Joe!
