Cannondale Slice - feedback

I'm in a pretty short decision cycle for a new frame.

I have access to a really good deal on a Cannondale Slice 5, but I don't want to let time pressure force me into making a ppor decision.

Does anyone have experience with the Cannondale Slice? How do you like it? Why did you choose it, or not choose it over other bikes?

  •  I have a 2011 Slice 4 Rival with SRAM components...I was weighing between the Slice 3 (which they no longer offer I don't think)...which was the same frame with Shimano 105 components and Felt B16...The Felt is a great deal at $1800 but I went with Cannondale becasue the overall component package was better and Cannondale offers great support...+ my local Bike Guy represented Cannodale.  ...I also got a bit of a discount from him...great package, great bike...you could pay more for Cervelo...but you won't go any faster....

Be careful on the fit.  The Slice fits near the far end of the tall & narrow spectrum in an opposite way that Cervelo fits near the far end of the long & low spectrum.  Moral of the story is that it may not be the right frame for you and could require a lot of fitting and stem/bar swaps to get it to fit okay or it might fit like a glove.  I'd have an unbiased fitter see if the Slice makes sense for you before shelling out a bunch of money for a bike that doesn't fit right.

Don't be really pressured on Slice 5 sales.  There will be a lot of them coming since the new Slice RS model will be coming out soon.

The extreme bike fits are going to be a thing of the past as all bike manufaturers are coming out with bikes that fit "somewhere in the middle" with a variety of bar and stem configs to then fit most everyone.  That's what Trek did with the Speed Concept.  That's what Specialized just did with the new Shiv and that's what Cervelo will be doing with the P5.

  •  Just to Echo those comments...in the end...it is all about the fit.

  • Brett,

x3 on the fit. But, regarding the Slice, I picked up a 2 in 2010 and absolutely love it. Bought it as a frame and spec'd it out with a mix of Ultegra and Dura-Ace.

The bike fits me great and handles really well.

My previous bike was an Elite (small, independent Philly co.).

  • thanks guys. It looks like Cervelo is going to cut me a screaming deal on a frame through the "crash replacement program." I've already been fit to the P2, so all I need to do is swap the equipment and get everything back to where it was positioned before. If all goes well, I'll have it built by next Thursday, just in time for RR#2.

Hopefully, it will be a few more years before I have to think about bike selection again.
