Garmin Edge 500 power metrics (NP/IF/TSS) finally released
Several months behind schedule but it's finally here.

Apparently Garmin Connect will show the new metrics so that means arriverderci to WKO+ for me. Good riddance says this Mac guy.

You're all very welcome. I finally got tired of waiting for this upgrade so I could buy a 500... So, I pulled the trigger on the 800 on Saturday. It figures they'd release the 500 update right after that.
You can also do it through Garmin Connect.
My first ride with update. Used Joule as back up. All my AP/NP interval numbers match up almost perfect . Total AP was off by 7 watts and total NP was off by 3 watts. IF was off .789 vs .805. TSS was 248.3 vs 246.1... So close enough for me! My 3rd new Quarq seemed to work well today and had an awesome ride with exception of a flat in the last hour!
My only complaint would be in the view splits section of the laps data IF TSS is not available it only shows the totals on the main page. I did not have this displayed while riding so I wonder if you have to have it on the display for it to be in the splits?
@Tucker early on in my ride I did notice my NP was about 15 watts off from the Joule to the Garmin so I was really surprised at how close they were at the end of the day.
updated. now wife's powertap pro+ having problems. Calibration no longer can be done. and the "auto zero" disappeared. ideas?
WKO 4:04 time / 80.1 distance / 19.9 mph / 212 AP / 223 NP / 232 TSS
Garmin: 3:58 time / 80.1 distance / 20.1 mph / 223 AP / 232 NP / 229 TSS
My initial thoughts are the differences would be related to auto-pause and non-zero data and how they are treated. I would think that since TSS and NP are proprietary from Training Peaks, the numbers would be a bit closer.
I don't have this update (or a Garmin 500 for that matter), but I find that the choice of NZAP propagates through all the Garmin calculations...In other words, if you use NZAP on the computer, it shows up that way on GTC and Garmin Connect too. I understand why they might do this, but it seems like lazy programming...they could give AP and NZAP easily enough on both of those formats.
In any case, it would not surprise me if you were right. Try making sure the Garmin is set for AP (not NZAP) and see if you get closer numbers.
