Does Anyone Else Break Out in Hives on a Hot Day

Over the last few years, I've noticed that on hot race/wko days, my legs break out in hives by the time I end the workout.  Clearly, it's a histamine thing.  They itch.  Usually easing off within the next couple of hours if I clean up and cool off.

Not sure if it's worth doing anything for it.  Don't want to take an antihistamine that could affect my effort.  Possibly, hydrocortisone cream for the really bad days?

Anybody else go thru this?

  • Same here...havent done anything about it, though
  • Yeah, it can't be called an allergy, but it's clearly a localized histamine release. Just weird how it affect only my legs. The hotter the day and heavier the sweat, the worse it goes.
  • It may be a physical urticaria ( or hives ) due to pressure and/or heat in combination. There are a variety of these due to physical stimuli like pressure, temp, etc.. I have had several patients in which this occurs. One of them gets it whenever she is cold like when jumping into a pool but it resolves shortly. Not much you can treat these with other than avoidance and antihistamines.
  • I do as well, but it's related to sun and allergens in the air more than heat, per se. Thick coats of sunscreen help me, but I can't promise you it's the same thing. (Thin coats of sunscreen aren't so good because they don't protect from the sun enough and they still "catch" the pollen/mold/whatever-it-is.

    Just a thought to try!
