End season Mary / where is that plan ?

I really didn't expect to have a season this year but looks as if one is shaping up so I'd like to do a marathon after my Tri season.

I have hacked the last 7 weeks of the OS to my own flavor. A nice block of VO2 max on the bike with an endurance ride

once a week for the last month. Also, following Jack Daniels book/chapter on 5 -15 K racing, but only 3 days per week so that

it didn't knock off my triathlete hat, two swim days per week included.

I completed a Sprint Memorial weekend , took it on the fly to access my fitness. I'm not a fast doode but all that VO2 max

training certainly allowed me to hold Z5 thru it all. So I expect for that block of time my roof has been raised. That allowed me a comfort level, if there is such a thing, to maintain that intensity. Testing will be next week !

I'm now in HIM training with that my A race ending Sept 8. I'm willing to put up my triathlon hat for the dig into a marathon Nov 16/18 in Philly. This leaves about 10 weeks training before the marathon with a 18 mile race late Oct on Long Beach Island. I have done stand alone Marys before and get my ass kicked ALL the time.... With a few IM under my belt and the mental endurance it took plus learning about execution in training the EN way.  I believe I can achieve a PR.....

What is best approach to make that an A race with A level fitness ?

  • Search the wiki for marathon hack. Also a few threads last fall on the topic. Basically doing the OS plan with marathon-focused runs.
  • Hey Mike thanks, needed some eyes on this. I have the Hack sitting on my computer and thought it the way to go as well.

So my best guess is follow the HIM plan. Chill for a few days. After that jump into week 6 of the Hack , because I only have 10 weeks until the Mary right ?
  • I would want to schedule a recovery week post HIM, then fire up the hack for the 9 week build to the race. You will have plenty of fitness from the HIM build, just want to get in a few long runs and try not to overcook yourself in the weeks before Philly.
