Tyr swinskin..safe for pool use?

 I am doing Eagleman and the way the water temp continues to already be above the standards for a non-wetsuit I bought a swimskin.  I will be racing Louisville also.  I wanted to try the swimskin out before the race.  I am doing a RR swim tomorrow at the Y.  Will pool harm the swimskin?

Thanks

Ken

  • Yes it will. A pool harms everything you ever use in it, from a cheap Target "board" suit to a wetsuit, to anything in between. That doesn't mean you'll ruin it with a single use in the pool though. But be very sure to rinse it out thoroughly.

    Competitive swimmers buy suits for ~$300 or something that are only good for 6-10 wearings in the pool! (but that's also stretching, too.)
  • For the amount you pay for a swimskin, I would NOT use it in the pool!
  • Ken I was / am in the same situation as yourself. I am doing Eagleman and (hopefully) Louisville as well. I did my swim race rehearsal today and had the same thoughts about using my swim skin. My research agrees with Matt and William. Although you *could* use them in the pool it is probably not a great idea. These items seem very delicate! Best to do a practice in open water if you can before the races.
  •  Thanks for the responses.  I did my RR swim today without the swimskin.  Will do some local lake swimming before Eagleman.  Thanks again.

  • Interestingly just got this note back from blue seventy re their swim skin;

    Hi Ian,

    Thanks for contacting us. The PZ3TX is perfectly fine to use in a pool for a handful of test swims. We do not recommend regular use as it will stretch out the fabric. Let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks'

    So that's good to know
