chain lube for bike on trainer

how often?  I think I might have killed my drivetrain by neglecting this last year, but it just doesn't seem like it's as necessary as when riding outdoors.

I lube the chain every time I clean it. For a bike on a trainer, the chain will stay cleaner longer than outdoor riding obviously. I clean/lube my chain the start of OS then once more at the end of OS--just before I take it outside.
