Home October '09 OutSeason

Almost done with week 16...

How are we doing team?! I'm amazed that we're this far through. Just a bit more to go then we're going to be done. Where oh where does the time go?

How've the workouts been going?

For me I've been amazed at how much better I've felt since moving off the V02Max stuff . I'm 100% on for my workouts, and generally feel good. Such a switch from the drag-butt feeling that I had been having. It's a nice switch.

Been swamped at work the last couple of weeks so haven't been in the Haus as much as I'd like. Hope to catch up in the next few days.

Mark, Stephen - You guys going to join us in St. George 2/25-28??? Please do!!

Off topic - We're watching a documentary about beavers right now. They are CRAZY creatures. It's amazing the lumber they move!

  • Good-Day Olivia:

I'm glad to hear you're feeling stronger on the workouts.  I had a great week 15 but this week was rough.  I tried to workout Tues with the 1st big brick listed in the week but I had nothing in the tank and my mojo took a dampening.  So, I listened to the body and waited until yesterday and was able to get it in.  So, that means I'll likely need to drop one day this week but no worries, it OS season right?

Yes, I'm planning on St. George during the last weeked of February.  I was heading down this week too but with all the snow we've had ,with more forecasted in the days to come, I called off the trek.  St. George is a 6 hour drive for me.

It will be an epic adventure if we all make it to St. George including Tom and Mark.

How's the rest of the team doing?  Are most of you resigned to trainers and treadmills like me to workout due to the weather?

  •  Hey fellow trainers.....Stephen, I had nothing in the tank last week but seem to be hitting my mark this week with one small hiccup.  So....completely inspired by the 100 push up challenge folks, on Monday I started the 100 push up challenge, 200 sit up challenge and 20 pull up challenge.  Yeah....clearly I overestimated my ability to do sit ups.  I am so sore that I live in fear of having to cough or sneeze.  There was significant pain with this morning's workout and there was no way that I could do any of the challenge yesterday other than doing assisted pull ups at the fitness center.  I had NO idea that push ups required that much support from the core.  I'm hoping that I'm sufficiently recovered so that I can do my measly 6 push ups today.  My husband was just laughing last night as I maneuvered into bed trying to find the best strategy to not yelp in pain.  Good pain though

Olivia....you are rockin girl.  I'm starting to get excited about 70.3 NOL.  Not that far away and I will get to meet my birth father for the first time that weekend as well!!!!  Should be a wonderful weekend!

  • Sheryl - I know it's not nice to laugh when you're in pain...but your description is cracking me up! Here's to no sneezes, coughs, or other abdominal disturbances for you!!!

YES!! I am so looking forward to the St. George weekend. The drive will suck, but we'll manage that. On the way there I'll be excited to get in rides with the team so the time should pass fairly quickly. On the way back I'll probably be so glad to not have to do anything but sit and point the car eastward while drinking recovery drink.
  • Sheryl, Wow all of the great challenges. You make me feel whimpy as I hardly do anything like that anymore. Let alone cranking out the large numbers. I wish I was present to make you giggle as you sound very vulnerable right now.

Olivia, I plan to run myself ragged when we get together too. Mega Training weekend with great company!
  • Hey Team!  It's good to hear from everyone!

Olivia, I'm so glad you're feeling strong again!  The VO2 max workouts were really tough.  I thought maybe I was just dragging, but maybe it was all that hard work.  Speaking of work, RnP are really ramping up the volume on these last weeks.  When is this OS over again?

Sheryl, you had me laughing about your all-over soreness!  Sometimes it feels good to be that sore, in a weird way.  I wasn't progressing as well as I wanted on my pullups and pushups so I started over at week 1 this week.

I wish I could join you all in St. George!  That's not in the cards for me right now - too much travel time an expense for a trip that, while undoubtedly very fun, won't be crucial to my training year.  I guess I can wait for Maui in May!

After the half mary on Sunday I thought I would have a very hard week of training, and was kind of dreading it.  I managed 2 out of the 3 12 minute bike intervals yesterday, but today's run was sweet!  Very surprising.

How is the rest of the team doing?

  • Question for you all. I would way prefer to run out side than in but the cold and ice have me running at the fitness center more than I would like. What are your thoughts on the exercise bikes? I do the intervals and I know that the watts read low (based on RPE) so I ramp that up till it hurts but do you think it's a good idea? Am I getting the work out I need on the appropriate muscles? I do my bricks there, then I don't have to bundle up all sweaty to run outside.

Ya'll can laugh at my pain....if it didn't hurt so much I would too.
  • Kristin,  How did you do in the half?  You're off the hook about St George for now image.

Sheryl, The bike trainer is optimal but in some cases you may need to use an cycling machine.  I guess what I'd suggest is using your heart rate.  Ramp it up to where your heart rate typically resides within the prescribed watt range.  I had to use an indoor cycling machine a month ago as I was traveling and I just used my heart rate as my guide.

  • Steve, the half was fine, thanks. There were more people racing than ever before, so I got stuck at the back of the second corral behind the joggers and walkers. I had to make the decision within the 2 miles to give up on a PR and to just have fun. It was a beautiful day and my legs felt great, so all was good! My sister BQed and I am so proud!

My B race this year is the Lonestar 70.3, which, I believe, is a week before IMSG. I'll be out there riding and running with you SG peeps in spirit, just not as long!

    Have a great weekend, friends!
  • Ah Lonestar. You'll have to be sure someone's there to take pics!

All IMSG folks...be sure to join the group that was recently created, and also "sign in" and identify yourself over in this thread:

Hope all of you have a good weekend...good workouts, good resting, good times!

  • OK. I'm COOKED! After today's run in an insane headwind I'm beyond ready for tomorrow's rest day. I cannot believe this wind! During the work intervals today I ended up a measly 2 seconds off my target pace. (Dagnabbit!) Close enough and I guess it will have to do. Hope you're all finishing out the week strong...at this point we're officially in our "mile 18" phase of the OS. Time to tuck our heads in and gittrdun!

  • Hey Gang! Sounds like everyone is still getting it done. I have been quietly setting back and just grunting out the work as best I can. Some days are definitely better than others, but overall I feel things are going pretty well.

Sounds like a large number of you will be moving on after this week. I will be hanging out here to the bitter end. Enjoy your transition week, and Good luck to everyone at IMSG or whatever your doing.
