What it takes...June 2012
Hi ladies, how is everyone doing? I can't believe it's June already!
I'm enjoying not training for an IM anymore...no monster hours of riding all weekend long, I actually have energy for real life stuff like work...it is such a nice change! Training for an IM is fun and very empowering in its own way, but I couldn't do it more than once every couple of years and still stay sane.
Tabitha and I are going to Tuscany in July with my family, so now our focus is on the trip! There has been lots of shopping for clothes, shoes, etc...all fun stuff!
How is everyone else? What'cha up to?

Joe and I planned a trip to Moab, Utah for next week but unfortunately he threw his back out pretty bad a few weeks ago. There was no way he was going to be able to sit on an airlplane for several hours much less be able to do any of the hiking, biking, canoeing, etc we planned. So we had to cancel the trip. Well, maybe I should say postpone- the VRBO cottage we rented agreed to let us use our payment towards another week this year- and we were able to cancel the airfare and not incure rebooking fees. So we're hoping to make the trip work later this fall. Anywhooooooooo, I decided not to cancel my week off from work and will be doing a Stay-Cation here instead. Considering I live where thousands of people travel to enjoy their vacations every year- it really isn't such a bad decision! I'll be a tourist in my own home and I plan on trying to cram in as much of the touristy crap that I've never done during this week. It won't be the break in scenery- or the quiet secluded time hiking alone with my hubby I was looking for- but it should still be fun (if I don't end up just doing household chores all week!)
In the last week, I've ripped one of my favorite pairs of tri shorts and my favorite pair of 3/4 length tights. So, shopping for me, but the spandex kind.
Nemo -- I've started a big list of touristy Chicago things I've yet to do and plan on indulging in a few every week. Mini-staycations! I finally went to see the Lichtenstein exhibit at the Art Institute yesterday (boring), but found a great exhibit on a few contemporary fashion designers. There was this neat chainmail curtain with all sorts of beautiful objects hanging in it. The best part was that we were allowed to touch it and wander in and out of it. I love interactive museum pieces!
I love touristy stuff! I have the benefit of family visiting so I've done plenty here in Chicago. Always worth it.
I, who promised myself I would not race at all this year, signed up for the Indy Marathon in November yesterday. I've been running so well the past few months, with speed I have no idea where it came from, that I started thinking the magic letters BQ. We will see. I'm looking into marathon nation, if anyone has any opinions on that!
Hope all is well and you enjoy your weekends!
Ooooh, Tuscany! What towns are you going to, where are you staying? We biked across, 3 years ago with the kids, it was sooo beautiful.
Things around here are heating up with prep for IMCdA. One thing I didn't anticipate was how badly the schedule would clash with end-of-year kid business. Asa's big dance recital is the day before we leave. Mackenzie just tested for (and received!!!!!!) his black belt in karate this week. He has a job interview for a summer internship today. Asa will be in a professional theatre production this summer and 6-day-a-week rehearsals start the day we get back from CdA. Fitting in these last big weeks of training has been hard. Wayne has been on the road for his job for 3 straight weeks, so I'm like single mom.
With all of that going on, I feel like I'm really not prepared for CdA. All the little details are escaping me. I still haven't gotten my race wheels/disk cover together to try them out. I'm probably forgetting a million things - arm coolers, sunblock, glide, etc. etc. Starting to panic! Need to start making checklists...
Hi Ladies!
Robin: Hope we can catch up this weekend! I'll get in Friday afternoon and leave super early Sunday morning. I'll be around the expo on Saturday. I get to do a gig on stage with Rinny Carfrae (way cool)! Don't worry about the race. You've got your work in the bank. It is going to be great!
Kristen: Where in Tuscany? John and I went a few years back and rented a villa with some friends. Amazing!
All is going OK here. Work. Training. Sleep. Eat. Repeat. I keep hoping once I get some fitness on the fatigue will settle down. We'll see.
We are heading to Vail for a couple of weeks with the fluffy kids at the end of July. I know it will be here *fast* but at the same time, not fast enough.
Have a great week everyone!
