Triathlon Warm-up Routines

Okay - anyone who has a favorite warm-up routine, please post it here. We have some questions about what works best.

Be sure to say if it is sprint, Oly, HIM, or IM. Any comments and all questions are welcome!

  • I like to think of the swim as my warm-up for Sprint and Oly :-)
  • I used to do a 20min easy bike ride, about a mile run, then try to get into the water before the swim to do 200-300 yards or so. I've now changed to just hoping to get in a decent swim (300 or so yards), and the rest of the time I spend setting up transition and socializing. I do try to get on my bike to make sure it's geared correctly for the bike mount, but beyond that I'd rather just not increase the risk of getting a flat.

    So, it looks like the swim is the favored warm-up. How about the timing - 30min out? Is stretching part of the routine? Also - how about nutrition before the race?
