Need a Tri Shoe for WIDE feet!!!

 Do any of you happen to be plagued with Fred Flinstone feet like I am?  UGH!  My '09/'10 Specialized Trivents have seen better days and it's about time to replace them - they fit PERFECTLY, but Specialized went and made the toe box more narrow in the '11/'12 version and they're just way too narrow for my foot.  I've tried the LG Tri-Lite's - the store didn't have my size in stock (38), but the 39's I tried on didn't seem very well vented anyway.  I bought a pair of Pearl Izumi Tri-Fly III's in a size 39 at an IM Expo, but realized they're just way too big and never wore them - otherwise, I do like them, but not sure if going down a size will mean that they are more narrow or not b/c the Specialized also fit fine width-wise when I tried them on in a 39.

Hoping someone has a suggestion - if all else fails, I'm just going to order a pair of men's and hope for the best!

  • Notachick...

    but maybe go with a guy's shoe? I bought a new pair of Trivents last year, 43.5 or 44, I think, and they fit fine.

    I hears ya cuz I wear an EE for my running shoes. Crazy, crazy flat feet.

  • I run in Nike Frees when I'm not in my Vibram FiveFingers. They seem to work and I have pretty big feet (42 and fairly wide). The problem I've found with guys shoes is usually that the heel is too wide and they slip around, which makes me worry about getting heel blisters on longer races.

  • I wear men's shoes... There, I said it.... The womens shoe sizes stop a few sizes too small for me. Buying anything in teeny tiny Euro sizes is a frustration for me image

    I'm a fan of the Tri Flys. I've not compared my manly shoes to the womens version, but they fit great. Plenty of room in the forefoot without being too loose in the heel. Can't hurt to try the mens sizes!

  • I have wide feet, too (my running shoes are a D width), but, somehow, Sidi bike shoes have always worked for me. I don't remember what model they are, but I have a pair of the tri-specific ones from several years ago and I have no problems with them. They are my second pair of Sidis, and I will buy another one next time!
  • Go check out a pair of shimano's like I have in classified. I'd give you a deal if you like them. Selling them for my girlfriend she went up one size and loves them. I actually rode her bike and shoes on the trainer tonight and liked me quite a bit myself. Tim
  • I have very wide feet as well. I wear Specialized men's shoes on the bike, and women's K-Swiss "Ironman" racing flats on the run. I've tried almost every brand out there, and I've found them to be the most comfortable for my Fred Flinstone feet. Love the K-Swiss running shoes! Don't know what I'll do if they change them.
  • Thanks for all of the suggestions everyone! I'm definitely leaning toward a men's shoe, but still having a hard time finding something since I'm a size 38... Looks like Sidi and Shimano are two options that offer a men's 38 (sorry Tim - would totally take you up on the shoes if they were one size smaller!) - and if all else fails, pony up the money for a pair of Specialized S-Works... Ouch!

    @Sarah - I feel your pain! Shoe shopping in general is miserable for me! The Tri Fly's would probably be the perfect solution if they came in a men's 38. Boo.
    @Kristin - T2's, maybe? That's what I'm looking at
    @Antonia - I'm going to have to check our the K-Swiss racing flats - sound great!!!
  • Yes, the T2!
