I need some help deciding which IF to ride at IMCDA...

FTP = 270 (conservative)

RR#1 = .72 IF of PNorm of 194 watts

RR#2 = .75 IF of PNorm of 204 watts

Runs for both RRs felt about the same - just hang in there.  Nothing special to report.

IMCDA is 4th IM (5th I've trained for)

Last thing...I'd gladly give up 15 minutes on the bike to gain even 5-10 minutes on the run.

What IF should I dial in?

  • What was your ride time and TSS for RR#2?
  • RR#2 - 5:09 - admitting I had a killer tail wind on the way back.  But the watts don't lie.

    TSS ~290-ish

  • you answered your own Q when you said you wanted a better run!

    0.72 IF

    run felt same since it was 6 miles, not 26.2!

  • Yeah, I have a hard time gauging just what that 6 mile run means.  For me, not much.  I always start those 6 mile runs saying..."I'm just going to run for 2"...get to 2 miles "Ah, I'll go 4"...get to 4 "ok fine, I'll go 6".  I feel like hell no matter what the bike effort was like.

  • .72

    You'll gain a lot of speed on race day from closed roads, not having to stop, accelerate after stops and turns, aero toys, any legal drafting that happens as you pass / are passed by other riders, etc.

  • yeah, the short run after RR ride always deceives.

  • plus I ALWAYS feel more tired on the bike on race day than I do in an RR...it's mental, but I feel better knowing I have been conservative...

    Patrick, that is very interesting.  I always thought it was just me who felt that way.
