>>The Official 2012 Ironman Coeur d'Alene Race Tracking and Good Luck Thread

Based on their Race Group, the IM CdA folks are ramped and ready to roll!  Send them good mojo here and also track them on race day.

Meet many of them here via the Meet The Team Bios:  http://tinyurl.com/74e4rd9

Rock on!

UPDATE:

ATTN: Because WTC keeps breaking our feed to the TeamEN Ironman Race Day Tracker we have decided to do a team-wide test of this IronTrac app. If you have an extra 99 cents in your pocket and want to be a tester for us, please do so for IM CdA this weekend. I have heard nothing but good things about this app so far. Coach Rich gives it a thumbs up. Thanks.

  • Good luck to all those racing CDA this weekend.

    Gordon

  • Be sure you tell us all about the race and include some good tips for us.
  • Will be following you all on my iPhone. Have a great day!!
  • I'll be watching too! Good luck to everyone. Have a safe and fun day, and be sure you aren't walking when you see Coach Rich!
  • Names seem now to be available to 'add'. Doing that now. Good luck peeps!
  • For those that want a larger screen version to follow all the EN'ers at once, here's my tracker:

I also have a mobile interface, it's a little rough:

I'm not trying to steal IronTrac's thunder or anything, this is just a pet project of mine. IronTrac and I are both getting the data from IronmanLive, so keep that in mind.

Gook luck to everyone racing today!

  • Good luck to all! Have a great day! I'll be following you and cheering you on from afar!

  • @Marc - Thanks!

Good luck Team EN! Show 'em how its done.
  • Thanks to Marc for hooking up that tracker!

Cool, overcast, and a little breezy here this morning.

I rode the new course yesterday, on my road bike. You can view the ride here on Strava. I had a small mechanical issue on the first out and back that slowed me down for a bit before I got it fixed in town. My impressions of the new bike course:

    • MUCH easier to figure out than the v1 and v2 courses.
    • Likely the fastest of the CDA courses.
    • No grades steeper than 6%. Most everything else is 2-4%. Think major 4 lane highway engineered to the standard 6% steepest grade.
    • Mica Grade (I think that's the name of it) is 1.8 miles at 5-6%, then 1% to flat for another 1.5 miles, then about 1.8-2 mile downhill.
    • In short, the hill are long enough and gentle enough that you just settle into your effort and get up them. No surprise kickers, etc
    • You're riding in one direction for a looongg time, 20-21 miles, I think, then flip and it come back. This means the wind is doing one thing to you / with you for a long time. But it wasn't "windy" just wind...

When you're motoring at 23mph on a road bike on a flat or even false flat road with a slight head/cross breeze from 2 to 4pm...it's a fast course. I plan to race it with a 25/11 next year, maybe a 23-11 after I test it out on the longer hills.

  •  Marc:

How did you do that?  AWESOME!

    John

  • Big thanks Marc!!! You made my day!
  • Anyone picking up CDA bike splits?
  • Seems like IMLive is having issues with the bike splits. Hopefully they'll get it working soon.
  • Just finished up my bike and checking in to some great work by the team at CDA.  Finish up strong everyone.

    Gordon

  • Team EN finish strong!!!
  • Marc - Thanks for the tracker - well done....

Noticed some pretty long T1 times....guessing that the water was pretty cold again this year and a few folks might have needed the warming tents....but looks like they all kept going (last year a number of folks DNF'd after the swim as they were just too cold)... Everyone keep moving....
  • Just saw Jeff Brandenburg finish at 10:44ish - congrats!
  • BTW - if you have an iPad and Apple TV set up with AirPlay you can watch the Ironman Live video on your TV now! looks pretty good too.

Just go to the race page on your iPad: http://live.ironman.com/?race=coeurdalene&year=2012 and play a video, then select your TV in the AirPlay menu on the iPad - boom!

    * How? WTC finally got it's act together in the past month or so and now streams video in industry standard h.264 mpeg that allows viewing of the video content w/o flash, that's the magic that makes it all happen.
  • I did not see his finish but congrats to Jim Moss who missed last years raced with an injury the day before he left for CDA.

Nice job to the other finishers so far as well.

    Gordon

  • Does anyone know if Todd got a Kona slot? Saw he was 6th.
  • Congrats to everyone who raced yesterday!
  • @Bill:  I pinged the GroupMe group a few minutes at CdA and they are waiting to hear about Todd as well.    I am sure we will all hear about the same time. if he does.  Finger crossed.

  • Unfortunately i missed the kona slot, 5th place got in, 6th did not. 22 seconds i'll probably remember for a while.. I did learn something though, I've always raced fairly conservative, always concerned about not being able to finish strong, i now realize i must take some risk and really lay it all out there. My training certainly showed i was fit, my last 10k showed it, i need to trust my numbers going into the race. I need to accept the potential to fail in order to see how fast i can really go.. I've seen/realized this thru others performances in EN over the years, just need to apply it to myself.. Very much appreciate the inquiries and kind words from many of you pre and post race. This really is a great community.. Thanks! t
  • sorry you just missed it todd.

see you in Arizona.     We'll gettem then.
