To swim skin or tri suit

Since the summer has just barley started the local Tri venues are already saying not wetsuit legal too warm.

So I'm looking for a fast T1.

options:

1, Wear my EN top in the swim that will most likely mess the top up but allow me not to have to put a dry top on a wet body.

2. Get me a swim skin that should aid a MOP swimmer like myself but then there is time to take it off ...etc

3. Get me a Desoto Forza Rivera tri suit.

What is your opinion ?

  • I use the Desoto for Sprints/oly races. Mine has the float pad which gives a slight lift but not as nice as the old now banned rubberized swim skins. Nevertheless it's nice to be able to do the whole race in one outfit. Transitions are much quicker and the pad is enough to be comfortable on the bike but not too obtrusive like the 400 mile pad on the run.
  •  For a shorter race, DeSoto Forza is my choice. I use the swim skin for longer warm water races.

  • I'm racing short course in a Kiwami Amphibian. It is a tri-suit and a swimskin...it's that good. For Muncie 70.3, I'm going to wear my EN Kit with the Kiwami over it and remove it in T1.
  • @ Paul , you ride without a padding ?
  • Yes, the Kiwami Amphibian has no pad and its fine for Olys ... Your experience may vary! image. I raced San Juan and St Croix in the Kiwami Konami which has a small pad but I think the Amphibian would have worked for me. In other threads about bibs vs bike shorts vs tri shorts you will find that many folks don't need the bike gear. I have two pair of bike shorts left and when they wear out I won't ever buy another pair. Tri shorts are just fine and I've used them on rides up to 130 miles.
  • @ Paul, Well thats the first I ever heard of that brand so I looked it up on the net. They put out some nice stuff. I will have to give that no pad ride a try with a practice ride and see what that feels like.... Thx

    @ All , Thx
  • Yeah, it's surprising more folks haven't heard of them cause the Amphibian is THE trisuit of choice for ITU pros. It is WTC legal but has a water repellant coating. If you throw water on the suit it just splashes off like rain on a windshield that you just put RainX on. It dries extraordinarily fast since it doesn't hold water like other suits. Their customer service is first rate.
