Help Us Test A New Race Day Tracking App This Weekend!

Folks:

Because WTC keeps breaking our feed to the TeamEN Ironman Race Day Tracker we have decided to do a team-wide test of this IronTrac app. If you have an extra 99 cents in your pocket and want to be a tester for us, please do so for IM CdA this weekend. I have heard nothing but good things about this app so far. Coach Rich gives it a thumbs up.

Looks like it handles 70.3 events also!  Nice.

If you have used the app already, please post ypur feedback here!

Thanks.

John

  • I've been using an app called Pele. It's not available now, the developer has pulled it. It works ok - I have no loyalty to Pele if IronTrac works better then I'm all about IronTrac. I bought IronTrac and I'll test it out this weekend.

And not to be the karma-suck guy, but to address your main point, if the EN tracker is down due to the WTC tracker that it get its data from being funky, then this app will have the same issues...

    From the app's page:
    FAQ:
    1. Where does IronTrac get it's data?
The data presented in IronTrac is retrieved from Ironman (™) Live, so if Ironman (™) Live experiences any technical difficulties, IronTrac will also be effected.
  • Got the App. Looks like no names are yet up for CDA. Will check on race day eve.
  •  OK folks.  Whatcha think?  Worth making part of the TeamEN race day arsenal?

  •  Offtopic: I ended up using Marc Robards Tracker all day. http://marcrobards.com/tracker/

It is pretty sweet. I say we kick him some treats, get him to keep maintaining it and us his!

  • We used iron track for CdA. Seems to gather data fine, but isn't uploading to Facebook properly. There may be some bugs to work out.
  • Hi!

I thought it worked fine in the very imperfect world of IM feeds.   I like Pele's layout better but it wouldn't look up one of the athletes I was tracking so that was a no go for me.   At a PC, Marc's page was hands down the easiest.  Only drawback there is if you want to track a non-EN peep I had no idea if I could/ how to add them....

    Thanks!

     Works fine

Robin - how much time did you give up tracking yourself while you were racing  - just kidding congrats on your race!

  • This app does not feel like a v2.0 - it has a lot of beta-ness to it. That being said, they did release an update today. I still find Pele easier to use, but I'm loyal to the the that works the best at the time I need it I know Stpahn, Pele's dele over is working on a new version, and competition is a good thing for the market.

And yes, Marc's web baesd tracker does a great job, and help up well throughout the day.
  • Thanks for all the compliments!

IronTrac works better than the last version of Pele, but I noticed IronTrac doesn't update correctly when IMLive changes the splits they were reporting (like taking out all the bike splits at IMCDA, and adding extra run splits at IM France). It's tricky keeping up with IMLive's moving target! Hopefully IronTrac will keep improving it since it's a paid app.

FYI, the next version of my web tracker (hopefully in time for IMLP) will have the ability to add & remove athletes, but it'll default to the EN list from the Team Event Info Google Doc (so make sure you're in there if you're racing!) I'll be keeping up with all the 70.3 races too.

For the geeks, I've already built an JSON over REST API on top of my tracker engine so it's ready to support a mobile app...but I'm still deciding if I want to go native or cross-platform or just keep it web-based...cause Android really needs a tracking app!
