Garmin Edge 500 question

Hi all,

I have had a problem crop up with my Garmin Edge 500 regarding speed and distance.  I use the optional speed and cadence sensor because I do a lot of training inside.  However, when I am riding outside, occasionally the sensor moves a little during rides (bumps, etc), and then the auto pause kicks in and the Edge believes that I am no longer moving.  I will stop to adjust it once, but I have little patience on a ride to really fiddle with it.  Is there a way to have the computer ignore the speed/cadence sensor at this point and just calculate my speed and distance from the satellite connection?

Thanks for any advice!

  • Yes. there is an option to use GPS rather than the cadence sensor. You can also "disarm" it by taking the magnet off the spoke....
  • Dino, do you know where that option is on the menu? I couldn't find that option today when I was looking around.
  • i don't have the thing in front of me, but believe it is as simple as just checking the "no" option on the cadence menu. It will ask if one is present, if you say no, it should ignore it. When get my hands on mine is confirm, but give that a try and let me know...image
