Riding long outside (NE) of Pittsburg

I'm going to be spending next weekend in Apollo, PA (4 miles east of downtown) and need to get a long ride in. Anyone know of rural routes mapped out in the area? It's maybe 25-30 miles NE straight-line from Pittsburg. I'd much prefer not to waste time driving to/from somewhere if possible and I'm looking for 4-5hrs which is probably about 80ish miles depending on the terrain. I'm not opposed to 2-3 loops if necessary.

  • Joel, I should be able to get you a couple options and there should be some great riding out there. I'll ping another couple locals, since that is a little far from where I normally ride.
  • You can also check MapMyRide.com or Stava, put in the zip code, and ask to search for 60-100 mile rides.

  • I tried ridewithGPS but didn't get much. I'll dig into Strava and mapmy ride later. I'll be staying at 3244 Balsiger Road so that's my ideal rolling location - looks pretty rural, especially to the north and east.
  • If it is that rural, use Google Earth and figure out what goes where and how to build a loop or out and back. Most of the imagey is good enough to see if there are shoulders or not.
  • I'll do that if i HAVE to but it's easier to let someone else offer up a good route image
  • Joel, I hear ya. But you need to understand that I am a map guy... literally. That's what I do all day.... make maps or analyze data to make maps with...... Just a geek at heart.

Sounds like Brett may have some options for you soon enough.
