Any plans for a Lake Placid camp this June?

Check out Camps section  in Red  boarder above. Has info. The NE rally is 6/10-13. I believe an email went out about that as well this week.

  • Massive plans...working on it now, but we have reserved a lot of rooms, working on events, sponsors, etc. Gonna be awesome!!!!
  • Coach P,

I'd love to come to this to get a ride in on the course since its been 3 years since I've been there and seen course when I watched my first IM.  But like I've told you before I have a full plate this year leading LP.  Grand Cayman vacation in March, TOC in May, Like to go to Wis. Rally too, but the pockets are going to run dry at some point.  Have any idea yet what cost of rooms will be in Placid for this rally?

  • Same weekend as Eagleman - I'm going to do Fireman Ironman the following Weekend.
  • Looks great - thanks all!
  • Rally is FREE, rooms will be 2 queens for $109 a night ($20 off street price), so split that with as many other ENers as you can!!!!
  • I am going to consider this, maybe see if my wife wants to play along.

  • I will be around for sure. Only thing I am "worried" about is that I heard that Saranac bout the LP Pub and Brewery.  Could just be a rumor.  Could be a good thing.  I fear change...

  • Focusing on what is vitally important in this thread.

Saranac bought the LP Brew Pub? Interesting rumor. Saranac is based and brewed in Utica so it seems like it would be an odd business move for them, but then who knows. So far both Saranac and LP Brews are still both on the shelves at Wegmans here in Rochester. Of the two, I probably prefer Saranac in the sense that each of the Saranac brews are pretty distinct in terms of taste.  I have a fairly hard time distinguishing between each of the LP brews since they are all versions of pale ales (all good ones, just the 3 versions they have available for distribution all taste pretty similar to me).

  • I love Saranac. My senior year of college I lived in a house owned and right next door to the brewery in Utica. We'd do the last brewery tour of the day on fridays with a friend of ours who worked there and sit in the bar for a few hours drinking our "2" complimentary beers. I even worked there over Thanksgiving weekend that year, pouring beers at the end of the tour. After the day was over, they handed me a 6 pack each night to go home with. Best job I ever had. I felt like Norm from Cheers when he got the beer tasting job.

back to the subject---oh, and I'd love to make it up there for a day or 2 of riding during the camp.

  •  No real information on the Saranac buying the pub thing bit the guy that told me that is super wired into the beer/wine thing and always knows what he is talking about.  As far as interesting things...came across this... P3 Vodka made in LP?

Wonder if they have plans for a P4 model that is more expensive and is higher proof ?

  • I'm in! Where's the EN hotel you quoted? I acted on the Northwoods Inn e-mail I got after registering for IMLP and got a great rate - $69 for Thursday and $99/night for Fri/Sat, in case anyone wants an even cheaper option.
  • Suzanne - What are those rooms like? Double occupance? Single? The rooms we have are for two queens at the Econolodge under Endurance Nation, $109 a night.

FWIW I just emailed the Northwoods point of contact....

  • College reunion for me that weekend this year so I can't make it. I am planning to be in LP the following weekend though for the Whiteface uphill TT on June 19th if anyone wants to plan to get together that weekend.
  • I got a king room but I remember them asking if I wanted a double when I registered.

  • For cut rate lodging, I have stayed at the Alpine Aire Motel which is near the Price Chopper. I think we have paid about $39/night in the past when we have stayed there for training camp. Think 70's shag carpet, very old mattresses, etc.

    Kevin,

I'll be up there for the fireman ironman camp that weekend. I've got eagleman the EN weekend. Let's be sure to meet up.

  • I have stayed at the Northwoods lots of times and think they always have a 99 special for non key weekend. Location is hard to beat. Most of the rooms have 2 queens but even the ones with one bed have a pull out sofa in the other area. They are all semi suite things and lots of them have a kitchen. Not fancy by any means.
  • If I decide to come to this camp I'll probably fly in to save the 2 days of driving.  Will anyone be available to pick me up at an airport?

  • Northwoods Inn is my favorite for the area - good deal if you say you are training for Ironman, and you can get a kitchenette so you can better control the food (makes it cheaper).
  • more details coming soon. FWIW, go with the Northwoods, and mention EN, they hooked us up with a great discount!

I am doing Eagleman that weekend so no can do on the LP weekend but the beer talk perked my ears up.  Did a little searching and I believe that you are safe, the brewpub is still stand alone.  LP Brewing has two companies, the brewpub and the brewing facility.  They do have an agreement with Saranac in relation to brewing and distribution.  LP cannot keep up with demand so Saranac has stepped in.  This is great for me as I now get LP brews at my local liquor store in NJ which I guess I can attribute to this partnership with Saranac.  Here is an article on it:

From the sounds of it you may have some more beers to try up there when you go.

  • That is great news about the Pub and makes a lot of sense in that the beer does seem to be everywhere lately.

  • Just a heads up -

Finally tried to call to book a room - both Northwoods Inn & Econo lodge are fully booked (for the Saturday night of the camp). I think there is an Olympic skating competition & the Lake Placid marathon also going on that weekend.

After calling 3 hotels, finally got a room @ the Pines - just up the street from Northwoods (well, up the street and around the corner). But they only had a very few rooms left. So if anyone doesn't have a room, I'd suggest starting to find one ...

  • A heads up to the coaches ...

The LP Marathon is on the Sunday (June 13th). The marathon goes along river road - which means we may have difficulty running the course on the Sunday since the marathon is going on that day as well.
  • Mike - Are you serious? I have an agreement holding 20 rooms at both hotels for "Endurance Nation"...we only have 30 folks RSVPd, max. Very suspicious. Did you drop our name?? image
  • I didn't say I was with EN - I just check availability. I'll double check and get back to you.
  • AH, that's the problem...we have a block. I called yesterday (in a panic!) and they told me our sales rep was fired. AWESOME. But that the rooms are still there under Endurance Nation. I have added that note to the Camps page!
  • Yup, my bad. Just registered for a double room so I'm all set. If someone is interested in sharing & splitting the cost let me know.

    Mike.
