Unusual high Avg Power numbers question

A friend is seeing some unusually high Avg power numbers in her Powertap pro/joule combo.  Last fall, she bought an EN plan and her first FTP test came in at about 185 watts.  Powertap and Joule were fairly new.  This weekend, she did another FTP test and said her avg power was 242 for a straight 40 minute ride on the open road, with rolling hills.  We checked the auto zero and it is set to yes.  I told her to force a manaul reset.  She says when she is rolling down the flats at 240ish she is only doing 20-20.5mph.  She is very aero and probably 145 lbs.  I'm suspecting a calibration issue.  When I'm sitting on 245 watts, I'm doing around 23 on flats, no wind.  Unless she's riding on a flat tire and her brakes are draggin.  Anybody see unusually high numbers all the sudden?  Thanks

  •  I'm new to power only have had powertap for about 3 months...so I'll ask the newbie question...you have autozero but does she calibrate/zero before each ride?

  • That's the next step Joe. I've been riding with a PT since 2004. the old PT pro with LYC wired. Just upgraded to the new wireless Pro/Joule about 18 months ago. I have nver manually re-zeroed and never suspected anything out of whack, so it didn't dawn on me that the auto zero wasn't enough to have. We are going to do the manual reset and see what happens. If she is truly at 242, then "I just got chicked" Thanks for the feedback
