Run issues leading up to race day
Lately I have been having issues running. My body is fighting me and seems to not want to allow me to run for longer then 4miles at a time without walking. I seem to be able to still do about 6miles an hour even with walking. I was wondering if I should just plan on walking during the marathon or not? Any input for people that have had issues such as this in the past would be helpful. This make no sense to me because I an normally run up to a half marathon on a whim. Thanks ahead of time....

It may also be the heat.
Okay sounds like you may have an issue of overtraing? Hows your motivation for the other activities?
Regarding race day...Everybody walks in the Marathon. Its a matter of expectations and exectution. (See IM run in Wiki).........what has your training been like up to this point? Where are you in training?...at peak or in taper? How far were you running prior to this point?
Brett; with four weeks left you're fine if you have already done most of the work...and it sounds as though you have...you will benefit most on race day now by getting proper rest/taper...Where are you racing? L'ville? If so ..c u there!
Ok, couple of items.
One if you rest and can run on race day great
If not listen to podcast on my IMAZ last year. I had a hip injury 6 weeks out and shuffled a run very slowly for 18 then walked it in but the strategy was very much the same as you are suggesting swim, bike (maybe a little harder at the tail end), then whatever you can do to finish. Worked fine. I also have a brother in-law that has done 8 IM's and has done the last two on a hip replacement. He paces everything and trains knowing he has to walk the whole marathon at an 18 min pace. He regularly finishes at 16:45. Seriously, multiple times even before his replacement because his hip was so bad he could not tie his shoes!
Reality is rest, you have the endurance, and your body just might not allow your HR to be elevated on the run for whatever reason. Overtraining, injury (engine is there, but can't rev). Either way you can have a great day, relaxed, fun, no wasted entry fee, and a rewarding experience that not just anyone can complete.
Also another podcast recently had a modified run walk discussed in it where in coeur d'alene a woman (sorry forgot which podcast) walk the one minute before the aid station and the minute after as well. Sounded like a good strategy for nutrition as well as pacing.
By the way, I am out of shape, and will be trying a similar strategy on IMNYC in a month as now my other hip is out! Some day I will figure out how to get to the start line healthy!
This may be obvious but look into vitamin D and some of the posts on low T. Can't hurt to take some non toxic holistic supplements just in case you are defiecient
I'm right there with you dude.... well... sort of. Had a mid back injury the entire season that really limited running and had to drop out of three races (I know, it sounds weird that my thoracic spine stopped my legs from running - but - it did!). So I finally get my back situation sorted out, and I end up aggravating sesamoiditis (ball of foot issue) in my left foot. I've been off of it for a little over a week now and had a cortisone injection this past Monday - still not sure if the injection is going to work or not, but I swear, come hell or high water, if I can walk, I'm doing IMNYC on 8/11! I posted a thread in the General Training forum a while back about finishing an IM with limited run training, and from the sound of things there are a LOT of EN peeps who have salvaged their race with a run-walk strategy (like Jonathan said above... and at this point I have resigned myself to being totally o.k. with a 16 hour day). Definitely sounds like you have the run fitness in you and if you can get this sorted out, you're good to go! Good luck!!!
