Heavy legs

Tremblant coming up.    Shortened the long run today to 18 miles.  Vdot 56.      Intention to add intensity.    Heavy legs halfway through.  Then picked up pace for last four miles.   Finished run without the heavy leg sensation.

Thought i had invented the cure for race heavy legs.   Go faster!      Wife says this is a known thing.         Others know of this?

  • It's a sensation. By going faster/working harder, you gave you mind a more potent sensation to pay attention to. This shows your muscles are very fit, and have more work in them than you give them credit for. Take advantage of that at the end of the race.

I suspect the "heaviness" is just your mind's way of telling you there's a lot of blood flowing through those quads. They're supposed to feel like that after a couple of hours of running?

  •  Al .   Sounds good.

Was also thinking that moving the legs faster helps the veins work better getting fluid out of the legs.
