Aqua Bike Pacing

Hi,

So because of my achilles injury, I'm dropping down to an Aqua Bike category for my race in  3 weeks.  I've been doing all my other workouts (swim/bike) since I stopped running 6 weeks ago.

I assume I should probably go the same race pace on the swim as I would for a full HIM.  But I'm wondering what advice folks have on the pacing for the bike.

Incidentally, I did my HIM race rehearsal #1 a few weeks ago and finished 56 mi in 2:53 at an IF of .79.   Was planning to do RR#2 next week and see what .81 IF felt like, but not sure if I should do that or something else given that I'll do a DU instead of a TRI.

Thanks for any advice.

  • Dude.... with no run after You can definately hold .85 (I do in HIM with running). If you aren't used to holding that then start out first half at that and slowly ramp up as the body will let you. Remember mentally that you don't have to run after, so you can be totally spent by the end.
  • Cool. Thanks Trent. I'm going to do one more RR on Thursday. I'll see what holding .81 for almost 3 hours feels like and go from there.
