HR on the Trainer

This is just a curiosity question but does anyone else have trouble getting to Z4 on the trainer?  My Z4 HR zone is 168-175 but on the trainer man 168 HURTS.  I am wrecked at the end of the intervals.  Outside though I run the intervals up above 170 and yes they still hurt but my legs aren't as torched thankfully b/c I normally have an hour to 1.5 hours more riding

Does anyone experience the same thing?  Just curious

  • Notes:

    • Your bike and run heart rates, and therefore training zones, will be different. Use bike zones on the bike, run zones for the runs, and don't try to make conclusions based on their differences, etc.
    • Your lactate threshold heart rate, and therefore your training zones, will be different if based on an indoor vs outdoor test. Whenever possible, we encourage you to test and train outdoors. If have tested outdoors and are training indoors, realize that your heart rate will not be the same and you'll need to shift more towards RPE (Rate of Perceived Exertion)
    • If you have power or pace, use those as primary tool for intervals, just observing your heart rate and learning more about your personal interactions between HR, pace, power, and RPE (and temperature, hydration, recovery states, etc) over time.
  • Yes. Definitely much harder to get the same HR indoors.
