RR#2 13 days out ... thoughts?
I’ll be getting to HI September 28, and would like to do the RR #2 on course on the 30th. What say you?
Benefits:
-On course. Gets my little mind around unique course conditions, wind, etc.
-will be as close to a true ‘sim’ as it gets (aside from starting at a parking lot instead of the pier)
-Seeing the course that closely will help inform the next two weeks’ engagement of mental strategies, visualization, etc
-If I booger it, there’s still time to recover
-I get the sightseeing of the course out of the way, so I can execute dispassionately on race day
Drawbacks:
-will be only second day in heat, so I’d really have experienced no adaption / acclimatization. Notionally, I would probably approach this conservatively – 5 to 10watts lower than what I would otherwise ride -and monitor HR. Will it still be an appropriate simulation?
-I would normally do RR #2 at 15 days out … 2 fewer days couldn’t really make a difference, could it?
- the two above are fine on their own, but when combined, could these be a potent risk of accumulating major (unrecoverable) training stress?
