Core Diet Race fueling: Infinit only?

Watched the webinar and listened to the follow-up questions, one of which was about using Infinit. If I am reading correctly, the Core Diet protocol is 25 g CHO (preferably multi-source) for every 30 mins, plus somewhere between 500-1800 mg of sodium per hour and NO WATER. But there is no prescription for calories or fluid ounces.

So, my Infinit mix serving has 275 cals, 68 g CHO (from multi-sources), and 600 mg sodium.  If I drink one of these servings per hour, plus supplement with about 500-1000 mg of sodium, then I have accomplished the recommended goals. But that would only be 22 oz of fluid per hour, half of the water that I usually drink. Plus, I haven't added any of the other gels/bars/shots that the rest of the world seems to need.

This can't be right? What am I missing?

Thanks

  • Hi John — you need the following grams of carbohydrate per hour on the bike — 5/8ths (0.625) times your lean body weight in lbs — so assuming you have a body comp of 5%, then your weight of 165 lbs becomes 157 lbs of lean weight — meaning you need 98 grams of carbohydrate per hour.

So you would need to drink 98/68 serves of infinit — which is about 1 and a half serves of 22 oz of infinit.

The run allowance is 2/3rds of the bike (per hour).
  • Brilliant, Peter. Thanks so much for the clarification! Math was never my strong suit
