In general is it ok to ride in the rain with a POwer Tap? I mean is it a silly risk to cause damage to the unit for just a training ride?
Other option is to stay inside on the trainer.

Not a problem with the newer units. 2hrs in a torrential downpour in Georgia in July, not a problem at all. If you were worried about it, you could always take the cap off after your ride to make sure everything is drys out, but very, very small chance of the internals getting wet.
