BTW/Core Diet Success Story
Just in the past two weeks ( 6-7 weeks post IMCDA), my legs have finally recovered. I tested bike and swim, not run, and pace/power levels were back where they should/have been...so I decided to throw a BTW into Kona build, 8-7 weeks out from race. Good call.
As background, I signed up for Core Diet, mission plan and race plans, 6 weeks ago. After a big adjustment period, and spending mucho $ on powerbar products, I have settled in and the results are impressive. Aside from cleaning up daily diet, I am now taking in 500+ cals on bike and nearly 400 on run. No issues, working great . I am thoroughly convinced that proper fueling is allowing my body to recover BETTER THAN EVER at 52 years old.
The final stats on the BTW are 412 miles bike, 27 miles run and 10k swimming. That's not the impressive part, although its the biggest volume week I've ever attempted or accomplished...the impressive part is that I felt good the entire week, and recovered great each day. Nothing close to bonking, or even the heavy legs feeling that usually comes along with a week like this.
Who knows what will happen on race day...there's a lot of time for a lot of things to go wrong, but I'm a solid convert on much higher calories during workouts, for fueling during, and , as important, recovery after. Just wanted to share the core diet success as it has really made a noticeable difference.
