Week 20/20...Ironman Wisc 2012 Race Week

WE MADE IT!!!  All the hard work, dedication, endless hours on the saddle, looking at a black line, etc are over.

Took Sunday off as scheduled and celebrated my daughters 10 year bday.  Had a blast.  Then went to bed at 9:00 p.m. and slept till 9:00 a.m.  Ahhhh had to talk myself into todays wko.

Did the scheduled wko: 1600 yards of swimming.  Felt strong and smooth.  Then did tomorrows 30 minute run.  The 3 min pick ups at HMP felt great.  Tomorrow I will do the 60 minute bike BUT I am doing on the trainer in the garage without a power meter.  Just going to spin for an hour.  Not taking the chance of laying the bike down or getting hit by a car.  Too much time invested in this race.

Headed up to Madison Thursday.  Will then do a short 30 min run when there just to unwind a little.

Be safe team and see you in a few days.

  • Yes! - Race Week - always a crazy feeling to look at that Ironman plan and see you are on the last week....

Got in 2 mile open water swim in this morning - was about an hour of swimming between a few breaks talking with the others from my local club swimming...interesting that only the folks doing Kona and me did more than the 1.2 mile loop....Felt pretty good and swim is as ready as will get....except..

Not sure which wetsuit to go with....weather looks like it could be pretty cold at 7am.. (maybe around 52 degrees)...have been training in sleeveless due to shoulder surgery, but it may be too cold for sleeveless....but haven't gone full wetsuit all year.... guess I'll have to make the call when I do the practice swim on Friday....

Been getting my gear and nutrition ready.... so far looks like I haven't forgotten anything.... we'll see if that lasts....

Looking forward to hitting WI in a few!
  • Nice work Carl and J.T.

I am madly trying to finish schoolwork before leaving and trying very, very hard to not skimp on sleep. This is definitely a new way to do Ironman =-)

Workouts? Ugh. Let's just say I took an extra easy weekend.
  • Great Scott, it's only 5 days away!  Way to go everyone!

JT - I know what you mean about sleeveless vs full sleeve.  I'd been swimming all year in a sleeveless and realized a few weeks ago that it was too big for me.  And during MOWS, I was a little chilly.  I was able to borrow a friend's full sleeve and tried it for the first time last Friday.  My left shoulder started feeling tired during the first quarter mile or so but then it was ok.  Gonna swim in the full sleeve again 2-3 more times before race day.

Weekend workouts were meh for me...Saturday rode on the lakefront path but it started raining, which I thought would turn into a full fledge downpour so I turned around and went home.  Plus the lakefront path had TONS of runners (guess it was a LONG run day for Chicago marathoners!) I got in about 1:15.  Sunday I headed down to Indy to spend some time with my family.  Monday, did the swim but was in a pool that I think was only 25 yards but seemed even shorter.  Got in about 1900 "yards" My mom was swimming too so it was fun to workout together

Got in the bike and run wkos this morning.  Felt great on the run!  I'm ready to get this race over with!!

Heading up to Madtown Thurs late morning so I'll see you some of you guys at the team dinner!

  • I seriously can't believe we are in race week!!!!! Time has been on warp speed lately. Didn't it seem so far away just a few weeks ago? Need to pack tomorrow!! No joke! Stuff all over the place...but now that the kiddos are back in school I can find some time to focus for a bit. SUPER EXCITED to do my 1st IM!!!!! I seriously can't believe it! I know I just said that 2x...but I mean it! image See you all at the team dinner!
