Swapping bikes with Power Meter Question

So I've had the Wireless PowerTap  for about 6 months now (EN HED Belgium Wheel Deal)...the entire time on my TriBike....I want to do some training/riding now outside on my road bike....is there anything I need to do/change/adjust/calibrate....or just take the rear wheel off the TriBike...pop it onto the back of the Roadie....calibrate with my 310xt and go?

Thanks.........

  • Yep, that's it. You "may" need to adjust the rear derailuer, maybe.

  • You may also find that your FTP on the road bike is higher than on the tri-bike.
  •  I  had heard/read that in other threads....do you keep a separate wko file or just mix all the rides together and get a blended FTP read?

  • Depends on you and when your next race is. For example, I came off IMLP in late July and switched to the road bike. I'm doing a HIM in late Sept., so I just reset my FTP in WKO to reflect the change to the roadbike. I was roadie through August and now I'm back on the tribike, so I just switched the FTP back to the tribike. I also added 10 watts to FTP just from feel and have been hitting those numbers, plus it worked well for my race rehearsal.

I've tried the seperate file thing a while ago and it just didn't work for me because of the Performance Management Chart (ATL, CTL, Etc.). It made it really hard to track my level of fatigue. I feel as long as your FTP in WKO is right, then having a mix of rides is fine....just don't use that to estimate your FTP based on the 28 day bell curve---- you have to test or have a real good feel of where you're at in terms of FTP based on your interval rides.
  • x2, on Keith .... what kind of nerd you are, more or less..
  • Make sure you have bike #2 set up in your garmin. The bike weight would be the main thing that changes.
